When the going gets tough, the soft get going South. When the Irish winters descend on Ballydehob, it is time to load up another CRV full of furniture, clothes, and books, and then head for Gozo. If we did not love Ireland, we would move to Gozo full time. Malta is located in the Mediterranean, 60 miles south of Sicily. It is a country where the Gozitans speak English and like Americans. Where can you find that on the mainland of Europe? Pretending to be Irish, they can't tell the difference unless Dale wears a UT hat, even the rural French are pleasant. Gozo is an island that is 8 miles by 5 miles. All of the villages are located on the top of flat hills, giving you an excellent view of the sea from almost all angles. Our house sits on the southern edge of Xaghra, giving us views from the roof garden of the south and east Mediterranean. We originally bought the house in shell form, rough limestone walls. This gave us a chance to finish it out as we, i.e. what I wanted. This is the first time I have had to have a new house. The food is excellent and varied. The local wines are good and reasonable. The drivers are a bit better than the Sicilians. For those who like to dive, I have heard that the diving is like Roatan in Central America. Peruse the Gozo pictures to see the island and our house. March: Let us hope it goes out like a lamb. Looking for new places to eat. All of the guest bedrooms are finished and waiting for visitors. Does anyone leave the US anymore, even to visit, besides us? Gozo Photos Belgard House Photos Home Page |
